Welcome to the inspirational fiction of author Debby L. Johnston. If you’ve read her first novel, Cherish: A Still, Small Call, you will know that Johnston draws the threads of the lives of her characters upward. The people she writes about (like her main character Andy Garrett) are sometimes surprised to find God waiting for them. Debby also seeks to encourage readers to explore their relationships with God. “There is much to find!” she says. “The fact that the Creator and Keeper of the Universe sees, hears and cares deeply about us in astounding. Even more touching is that He makes our relationship with Him worthwhile by unfolding something wonderful, called grace.”
“Inspiring”, “enthralling”, and “tender” — even “sweet, as a love story” — are just some of the words used by readers to describe the Cherish experience. One friend confided that she couldn’t put the book down until she’d finished reading all 316 pages!
“Readers Discussion Notes appear at the end of the book for use in sharing with a group the life themes the story covers,” Debby adds.
What readers are saying about Cherish: A Still, Small Call:
“The novel has many appealing descriptions and a poignant ending.” (Kirkus Indie – A review service from Kirkus Reviews)
“The story of Andy Garrett speaks volumes for the power of God and what He alone can accomplish when we are open to His leading.” (Mrs. T. – 5-Star Review on Amazon.com)
“It is full of love of God, caring and compassion for others. Great Book!” (B. Osburn – 5-Star Review on WestBowPress.com)
A minister’s wife for forty years and a long-time employee in secular fields, Debby loves retirement because it gives her time to write. Her pages weave inspiration and her characters ring true because her fiction is heavily colored by people and situations like those in the churches she and her husband, Scott, served. The couple lives in Ohio, where Scott, though officially retired, still preaches on Sundays in a delightful country church not far away.
Debby says, “I hope to cause readers to laugh, cry, and believe as they discover the God who does not disappoint. If I’ve accomplished that, I’m very happy.”
